Dancer
and choreographer Wayne McGregor was born in Cheshire. He
studied at University College Bretton Hall and then in New
York at the José Limon School.
He
founded Random Dance Company in 1992 and was subsequently
appointed choreographer in residence at The Place. His work
for Random includes the digital trilogy The Millennarium,
Sulphur 16 and Aeon and has led to critically acclaimed national
and international tours.
Random
Dance became Resident Company of Sadler's Wells in July 2001.
As well as choreographing dance, he also choreographs for
opera, theatre, television and film and has created site specific
work in galleries and public spaces. He is known for his idiosyncratic
movement style and his works have often incorporated new technology.
In
1996 he was nominated for an Olivier Award for ?Best Choreographer?
and was awarded the Outstanding Choreography Award in Time
Out?s Live Awards 2002, for PreSentient and Outstanding Achievement
in Dance Award in 2001. He was nominated for the South Bank
Show Award for Dance and the Outstanding Contribution to Dance
Award for the Critics' Circle Dance Section. In 2002, he was
again nominated for the Critics' Circle Award in the Best
Choreography category and Angelin Preljocaj nominated him
for the international ballet prize the 'Benoise De La Danse'.
He
has worked with include The Royal Ballet, Ricochet Dance Company,
New York City Ballet, English National Ballet, the National
Theatre, English National Opera and Scottish National Opera.
